Using Windows Live Writer with Drupal

By vishalsood - Posted on 23 April 2008

I just finished configuring Windows Live Writer for this blog. As I write this post, the thought going through my mind is why did I not use it so far. I am becoming a fan (if you may say that) of Scott Hanselman and I was reading his blog and thought of giving it a try and viola here we are. If you don't use Windows Live Writer so far don't take my word for it, try it!

I must admit that while it is so easy to post a blog with this, it was not that easy trying to make it work with Drupal. Now that I got around to make it work, it was not all that difficult either.

Here is how you can configure Live Writer to work with Drupal:

  • This is the most important, download Windows Live Writer.
  • In the Drupal setting, enable the Blog APIs for all kinds of entries (refer screen shot below)

  • Add the account, chose "Another weblog service" in the first screen

  • Enter the URL to add blog entries, it is normally <website.com>/node/add/blog. You can cross check by going to your blog and checking the link for "Create New Blog Entry". Enter credentials

  • Enter provider details (refer to screen shot below)

  • Select the Webblog (this will list the options available for your site)

  • Proceed with the remainder steps, Click Yes when it prompts to download theme details.
  • You are all set, test by writing your first post
